Puerto Vallarta Weather in October: Rain, Temperatures

Puerto Vallarta weather in October is the final month of the annual rainy season. Average rainfall is moderate and temperatures are hot.
Puerto Vallarta on the western coast of Mexico is a popular port of call with Mexican Riviera cruises. It is much less popular during the annual rainy season that goes from June through October.
Fortunately, October doesn’t have nearly as much risk for rain as the previous rainy season months, especially July, August and September.
October Temperatures
Puerto Vallarta temperatures in October have an average daytime high of 92 degrees Fahrenheit or 33 Celsius, according to Mexico’s national meteorology service (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional). They have an average nighttime low of 72 degrees Fahrenheit or 23 Celsius.
By comparison, daytime temperatures hover in the low 80s Fahrenheit or mid 20s Celsius in the winter. Nighttime winter temperatures drop even lower into the low 60s Fahrenheit or mid teens Celsius. So October temperatures are quite warm compared to winter and quite warm for a fall month.
October seawater usually feels comfortable for swimming during the day.
October Rainfall
October rainfall historically is a moderate risk for Puerto Vallarta, according to 30 years of data from Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, Mexico’s National Meteorology Service.
Average rainfall takes a big drop from September, going from 15 inches in September to four inches in October. October is the last month of the annual rainy season.
By comparison, the average rainfall jumps from seven inches in June to 13 inches in July, declines a bit to 12 inches in August and jumps again to 15 inches in September. These heavy rain months are the result of the annual Pacific hurricane season, which goes from mid-May through November.
February through April historically have almost no rain at all.
Puerto Vallarta weather in October is a transition month from the rainy season to the dry season for this popular Mexican Riviera cruise and resort destination. Visitors will usually find hot temperatures and a moderate risk of rain.
