Puerto Vallarta weather in March is usually so dry that it almost never rains during the month.
Dry weather at this port of call for Mexican Riviera cruises on the western coast of Mexico is one reason why it’s a popular place to visit in March.
But temperatures in Puerto Vallarta aren’t quite ideal. They are somewhat cool at night, which brings down water temperatures. They make swimming a bit chilly during the day, especially in the mornings.
March Temperatures
Puerto Vallarta temperatures in March have an average daytime high of 85 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius, according to Mexico’s national meteorology service (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional).
They have an average nighttime low of 62 Fahrenheit or 17 Celsius. Nighttime temperatures are cooler than other destinations along Mexico’s Pacific and Gulf of Mexico coast.
March temperatures are near the lowest point of the year. They take place in January and February.
Anyone who wants to swim will find that temperatures are much more appealing in early summer. But late summer and early fall bring plenty of rain.
March Rainfall
Puerto Vallarta has a very low risk of rain in March. Rainfall has averaged less than one inch during the month over the last 30 years, Servicio Meteorológico Nacional says. It rains an average of only one day during the month—if at all.
March is the fifth month of the dry season that goes from November through May when it rains an average of one inch a month or less. February through April historically have almost no rain at all.
By comparison, the Puerto Vallarta rainy season goes from June through September because of the annual Pacific hurricane season.
July through September average about 12 to 15 inches of rain per month. They are the worst times to visit.
Puerto Vallarta weather in March historically has clear skies and moderate temperatures. But April and early May offer even warmer temperatures with the same low risk of rain. They are better months to visit, especially for cruise and hotel visitors who want to have fun in the water.
