Puerto Vallarta Weather in December: Rain, Temperatures

Puerto Vallarta weather in December has a low risk of rain because December is the second month of the annual dry season. Temperatures are warm despite the fact that December is the beginning of winter.
Puerto Vallarta on the western coast of Mexico is a popular port of call with Mexican Riviera cruises. It has an intense rainy season during the summer from June through September but a dry season the rest of the year.
December Temperatures
Puerto Vallarta temperatures in December have an average high of 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius, according to Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, Mexico’s national meteorology service. They have an average low of 64 degrees Fahrenheit or 18 Celsius.
Low nighttime temperatures in combination with trade winds make seawater temperatures feel a bit chilly at times, mostly in the mornings. They normally feel more comfortable in the afternoons.
By comparison, daytime air temperatures average more than 90 degrees Fahrenheit from June through November. Nighttime temperatures average in the low 70s Fahrenheit during the summer.
December Rainfall
December rainfall historically is a moderate risk for Puerto Vallarta, according to Servicio Meteorológico Nacional.
Average rainfall drops from 15 inches in September to four inches in October. They drop even more to only one inch in November and the same in December. It rains on average only two days during December.
By comparison, the average rainfall jumps from seven inches in June to 13 inches in July, 12 inches in August and 15 in September. Heavy summer rains are the result of the annual Pacific hurricane season.
By comparison, February through April average have almost no rain at all.
Between warm temperatures and a low risk of rain, December is one of the better weather months for Puerto Vallarta.
