Puerto Vallarta Weather in May: Rain, Temperatures

Puerto Vallarta weather in May usually has hot temperatures and rarely any rainfall. It’s one of the better months to visit this Mexican Riviera cruise port on the west coast of Mexico.

May Temperatures
Puerto Vallarta temperatures in May have an average high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit or 31 Celsius, according to Mexico’s national meteorology service (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional). They have an average low of 68 Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius.
Cool nighttime temperatures will bring down the water temperatures, especially in the mornings. The water usually feels comfortable for swimming for most of the day.
By comparison, temperatures reach the low 90s Fahrenheit or low 30s Celsius from June through November.
May Rainfall
The risk of rain historically is quite low in Puerto Vallarta during May, according to Mexico’s national meteorology service. If it does rain, it rains an average of less than one inch and only one day during the month.
May is the final month of the dry season that goes from November through May when it rains an average of one inch a month or less. February through April historically almost never have any rain at all.
By comparison, the Puerto Vallarta rainy season averages seven inches in June and 12 to 15 inches per month from July through September. October averages four inches. Rainfall is high during those months because of the annual Pacific hurricane season.
May weather in Puerton Vallarta offers one of the best months to visit because of a combination of warm temperatures and low risk of rain.
