Bermuda weather in May shows the first signs of summer weather on the way. Even better, it’s the driest month of the year.

The island of Bermuda is often a destination for cruises that start from the eastern coast of the United States on their way to the Caribbean. It’s an even more popular destination for cruises that go only to Bermuda. The island has more cruise visitors than hotel visitors, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

Bermuda’s northern location makes the weather cooler than the rest of the Caribbean for most of the year.

Its beaches are far more popular during the summer when high temperatures reach into the mid 80s Fahrenheit or about 30 Celsius. But May isn’t quite warm enough for swimming at beaches, although it is good for visiting them.

Bermuda Temperatures in May

The average high temperature in Bermuda in May is 75 degrees Fahrenheit or 24 Celsius, according to the Bermuda Weather Service. The average low temperature is 68 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius.

The average water temperature in May is 72 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 Celsius, the Bermuda Weather Service reports. Trade winds make the water feel even cooler. The cooler water temperature and trade winds make the ocean a bit too chilly for swimming except on warmer days. On those days, afternoon seawater is warmer than mornings.

Air temperatures during the day make land activities more appealing, especially for golfers on the island’s popular courses.

Rainfall in May

May is a great month to visit Bermuda for the low risk of rain. May has the lowest level of rain for any month of the year. It’s another reason why Bermuda weather in May is great for golfers.

The average rainfall for Bermuda in May is a little more than three inches, according to the Bermuda Weather Service. It rains on average about 10 days during the month. That’s also the lowest of the year for the island.

May looks even better because the average rainfall jumps to five inches in June. It averages five to six inches a month from June through October during the Caribbean hurricane season.

Visitors will find that Bermuda’s weather in May is best for pants, short sleeve shirts and light jackets except on days when the temperatures jump a bit. They will have to wait to wear shorts and T-shirts until they get to the Caribbean if they go in May.
