Grand Cayman weather in November is enough to keep anyone away from this popular cruise destination.

The largest island of the Cayman Islands attracts cruise visitors in part because of major Grand Cayman attractions such as Stingray City and Seven Mile Beach.

The majority of visitors come from cruises, but cruise traffic drops from September through October for the simple reason that weather then is quite bad historically.

The annual Caribbean hurricane season runs from the start of June to the end of November. It reaches a high point of storms and hurricanes in September and October.

Most destinations catch a break in November. But not Grand Cayman.

The following statistics come from 30-year averages from the Cayman Islands National Weather Service and will vary somewhat from year to year.

November Rainfall

At least the rain in November isn't as bad as September and October. But not by much.

Total rainfall averages more than 6.5 inches compared to the eight inches or more the island receives in the previous month.

It also rains an average of 17 days during the month, which is higher than the average for other Caribbean destinations this time of year.

At least it isn't as bad as the 19 days in October and the 20 days in September.

Keeping warm during the day won't be a problem. The average high temperature is 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

The average lows are a bit cool at 70 degrees, which will bring sea water temperature down a bit.

But that's Grand Cayman. It has one of the highest spreads between high and low temperatures in the Caribbean with days quite warm and nights quite cool by comparison.

Whether to Go

As someone who has traveled in the Caribbean in November, I can say that it is a risky month to go to most destinations in the region.

Grand Cayman is riskier than most because of its higher than normal total rain and rain days.

The best reason to go to the Caribbean in November is that total tourism is usually quite a bit lower and discounts quite a bit higher.

In the case of Grand Cayman, fewer cruises will be available because of the weather and lower popularity.

But that doesn't stop some people from going by air to spend a week on the island for the great attractions it offers -- as long as it doesn't rain.
