Grand Cayman weather in September historically has hot temperatures and a much higher than normal risk of rain.
Cruise and resort visitors during the month will like the warmth, but they will take a big chance with rainfall.
They can thank the annual Caribbean hurricane season for heavy rains that historically reach a high point in September and October for many islands in the region. Grand Cayman, which is a popular cruise destination, is no exception.
Average Rain in September
The average rainfall in September of eight inches is only slightly less than the eight and a half inches in October, according to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service.
September and October are the peak months of the Caribbean hurricane season because both months historically average three to four hurricanes and tropical storms a month.
Even though hurricanes rarely hit an island directly, they are big enough to spread heavy rain and strong winds throughout the region.
October has slightly more rain than September, but September has an average of 20 days of rain during the month compared to 19 days in October. Those odds mean a visitor may have rain an average of two out of every three days, although stretches of sunshine do take place.
By comparison, the Cayman Islands average two inches of rain or less from January through April and 10 days or less of rain.
As a result of these rain patterns, September and October are the least popular months to visit these islands while January through April are the most popular months, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The Cayman Islands are among the warmest destinations in the Caribbean. Average highs stay in the upper 80s Fahrenheit even in January and February.
The best reason for anyone to visit the Caymans in September is for a last-minute trip with a good weather forecast. The worst reason to visit is the hope that skies will be clear for an entire week.
It’s better to visit other months of the year, especially in late spring when temperatures are warm and risk of rain is low.
