Cayman Islands’s average weather in September has rainfall of eight inches and a high temperature of 91 degrees Fahrenheit.

Visitors during the month will like the warmth, but they will take a big chance with rain.

They can thank the annual Caribbean hurricane season for heavy rains that historically reach a high point in September and October for many islands in the region. Grand Cayman, which is a popular cruise destination, is no exception.

Average Rain in September

The average rainfall in September of eight inches is only slightly less than the eight and a half inches in October, according to statistics from the Cayman Islands National Weather Service.

September and October are the peak months of the Caribbean hurricane season because both months historically average three to four hurricanes a month.

Even though hurricanes rarely hit an island directly, they are big enough to spread heavy rain and strong winds throughout the region.

October has slightly more rain than September, but September has an average of 20 days of rain during the month compared to 19 days in October. Those odds mean a visitor may experience rain two out of every three days.

By comparison, the Cayman Islands average two inches of rain or less from January through April and 10 days or less of rain.

As a result of these rain patterns, September and October are the least popular months to visit these islands while January through April are the most popular months.

Average Temperatures in September

The Cayman Islands stay hot during the month despite the heavy rains. The average high temperature of 91 degrees Fahrenheit or about 33 Celsius continues the hot temperatures that blanket the island starting in May.

The islands are among the warmest in the Caribbean. Average highs stay in the upper 80s Fahrenheit even in January and February.

The best reason for anyone to visit the Caymans in September is for a last-minute trip with a good weather forecast. The worst reason to visit is the hope that skies will be clear for an entire week.

It’s better to visit other months of the year, especially in late spring when temperatures are warm and risk of rain is low.
