Grand Cayman weather in January is warm enough and dry enough to draw many visitors via western Caribbean cruises.

The Cayman Islands are a popular cruise destination for good reason—the main island of Grand Cayman has one of the best beaches and one of the best natural attractions in the region.

The beach in question is the famous Seven Mile Beach. The attraction is arguably the more famous Stingray City, where visitors jump into the water with a school of friendly stingrays.

Combine the beach, Stingray City and Grand Cayman’s January weather, and the island is even more popular because of warm temperatures and a lower than normal chance of rain.

In fact, January is part of the dry season for the western Caribbean, and Grand Cayman is drier than most other times of the year.

Grand Cayman Temperatures

Grand Cayman is the warmest Caribbean island in January.

January in Grand Cayman has temperatures that are similar to February and March.

Grand Cayman temperatures in December have an average high of 83 degrees Fahrenheit or 28 Celsius, according to the Cayman Islands National Meteorology Service. The average low is 68 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius.

Daytime temperatures are pleasant enough for shorts and loose shirts, but nighttime temperatures are quite a bit cooler than normal.

As a result of the nighttime air temperatures, seawater temperatures may feel cool for swimming, especially in the mornings.

Grand Cayman Rainfall

The island’s dry season starts in January and runs through April with an average monthly rainfall of less than two inches.

By comparison, Grand Cayman receives an average of eight inches a month of rain in September and October and about six inches from May through August during its rainy season, according to the Cayman Islands National Meteorology Service.

It rains fewer days on average in January than it does during most other times of the year. The total is just seven days compared to 20 days in September and 19 days in October.

Although the number of rain days isn’t as good as the average of six in February and March and only four in April, it is still well below normal for the remainder of the year.

January is one of the better times to go to the Cayman Islands to get away from cold northern winters, but it is not the best time to go. March and April will be warmer and more comfortable.
