Cayman Islands weather in January is warm enough and dry enough to draw many visitors via western Caribbean cruises.

The Cayman Islands are a popular cruise destination for good reason—the main island of Grand Cayman has one of the best beaches and one of the best natural attractions in the region.

The beach in question is the famous Seven Mile Beach, which as its name describes is about seven miles long and lined with shopping, dining, entertainment and of course plenty of sand.

The attraction is arguably the more famous Stingray City, where visitors climb out of boats and jump into the water with a school of friendly stingrays that glide within inches of visitors who stand in three feet of water on a sandbar.

Combine the beach, Stingray City and Grand Cayman’s January weather, and the island is even more popular because of warm temperatures and a lower than normal chance of rain.

In fact, January is part of the dry season for the western Caribbean, and Grand Cayman is drier than most other times of the year.

Rain Inches

The island’s dry season actually starts in January and runs through April with an average monthly rainfall of less than two inches.

By comparison, the island receives an average of eight inches a month in September and October and about six inches from May through August, according to historical figures from the World Weather Organization.

It also rains fewer days on average in January than it does during other times of the year—just 12 days compared to 20 days in September and 19 days in October.

Although the number of rain days isn’t as good as the average 10 in February and March and only seven in April, it is still well below normal for the remainder of the year.

Average Temperatures

January in Grand Cayman has temperatures that are similar to February and March.

The average highs are the mid 80s Fahrenheit and high 20s Celsius. The average lows are in the mid 60s Fahrenheit and high teens Celsius.

Daytime temperatures should be pleasant enough for shorts and loose shirts, but nighttime temperatures are quite a bit cooler than normal.

As a result, seawater temperatures may be too cool for swimming, especially in the mornings.

January is one of the better times to go to the Cayman Islands to get away from cold northern winters, but it is not the best time go to. March and April will be warmer and more comfortable.
