Grand Cayman weather in April is hotter and drier than most other months of the year.
Grand Cayman, the largest island in the Cayman Islands chain, is hot in more ways than one. It is one of the busiest ports for western Caribbean cruises.
Major attractions such as Seven Mile Beach, Stingray City and Cayman Turtle Centre make the island especially popular with active vacationers.
The Caribbean Tourism Organization says that March is much more popular for Grand Cayman visitors than April. Many schools have spring break during March, but April offers warmer temperatures and fewer days with rain. So it’s a better month for travelers to visit the island.
Temperatures in April
The average high temperature for Grand Cayman in April is 89 degrees Fahrenheit or about 32 Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Service of the Cayman Islands. These average highs usually take place during mid afternoons.
The average low temperature is 71 degrees Fahrenheit or about 22 Celsius. The average lows occur mostly at night.
Seawater temperatures usually hover about midway between the highs and lows of the air temperatures. A water temperature of about 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 27 Celsius is usually comfortable for swimming. Mornings have the coolest water temperatures and mid afternoons the warmest.
Because of hot daytime temperatures, visitors may find that land activities are best in the mornings and water activities best in the afternoons.
Rainfall in April
The Cayman Islands have the lowest amount of rain historically in March for the entire year. April rainfall for Grand Cayman is the second lowest of the year with an average of less than two inches, according to the National Meteorological Service of the Cayman Islands.
But April has an average of seven days with rain while March has an average of 10. So it usually rains less often in April than in March.
Anyone planning a cruise or overnight vacation to Grand Cayman should know that April is the end of the dry season for the island.
Rainfall jumps to nearly six inches in May and stays at that level until August. It starts to climb again until reaching a high point for the year of more than eight inches in October.
So April is one of the best months for total rainfall and total days with rain.
Whether to Go in April
April weather for the Cayman islands is ideal for visitors who like warm temperatures and comfortable seawater. It also is a great month for low rainfall and smaller crowds.
March weather is less hot during the day, but it also is quite a bit cooler at night. Seawater temperatures may feel chilly at times for swimming for part of the day, especially in the mornings.
April also is better than May or later months that have a higher risk of rain.
