Grand Cayman weather in August is hot and rainy. August is not the best time for vacationers to visit this western Caribbean island.

Grand Cayman dominates the small Cayman Islands chain. It is one of the most popular cruise ports in the western Caribbean, so cruise travel planners should heed the average monthly weather.

They do because August is not nearly as popular for visitors as December through April during the dry season. But it still attracts visitors in August, in part to take advantage of lower cruise and hotel rates.

Grand Cayman Temperatures in August

Some people also like hot weather. They will find plenty of it in the Cayman Islands in August.

The average high temperature in Grand Cayman during August is 92 degrees Fahrenheit or 33 Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Service of the Cayman Islands. It’s one of the highest average temperatures in the Caribbean during the month.

The average low temperature during the month is 73 degrees Fahrenheit or 23 Celsius.

Water temperatures hover about midway between the daily high and nightly low air temperatures. So they feel comfortable for swimming throughout the day in August. They might even feel bathwater warm.

Rainfall climbs in the Caribbean during August because of the annual Caribbean hurricane season, which goes from June through November. Rainfall gradually increases each month for most major destinations starting in June until it reaches a high point in September and October.

The same is mostly true of the Cayman Islands. Rainfall in Grand Cayman averages more than five inches in June and July and jumps to more than six inches in August, according to the National Meteorological Services of the Cayman Islands.

This compares to a low point in the winter and spring dry season when it rains about two inches a month and the highest point of the year of eight inches in September and October each.

Rainfall also is worse than normal in August because of how often it rains. It rains on average 18 days during the month. This compares to the low point of seven days during the dry season and a high point of 20 days in September.
