Belize Weather in January: Rain, Temperatures

Belize weather in January historically has moderate rainfall in this otherwise rainy Central American country.

The country has a cruise port at Belize City that attracts “exotic” western Caribbean cruises.

Cruise visitors go to Mayan ruins and ecotourism attractions. Belize is known for ecotourism attractions such as rainforests because the country has heavy rainfall during much of the year. Rain is especially heavy from June through December. That’s not quite the case in January.

Belize Temperatures in January

Belize temperatures in January have an average daytime high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit or 28 Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Service of Belize.

The average nighttime low is 67 degrees Fahrenheit or 19 Celsius.

January temperatures are the lowest of the year. They also are cooler than many other Caribbean destinations.

These temperatures compare to the high points of the year from June through September when they reach the upper 80s Fahrenheit or about 30 Celsius.

Average Rainfall

Belize City averages more than five inches of rain in January. Although a moderate level for Belize, it is high versus other Caribbean destinations during January.

By comparison, September and October average more than 10 inches a month.

Belize has a rainy season that goes from June through December. Most Caribbean destinations have a rainy season from June to November.

January is a transition month between its long rainy season and short dry season. January rainfall is about midway between the annual highs and lows.

January rainfall also is somewhat high compared to a low point of two inches in February and March. They are part of the country’s brief dry season, which goes from February through April.

January is not the worst month of the year to visit Belize, but it’s not the best month, either. Travelers will find that the best times to visit Belize are February and especially March when the risk of rain is lowest and temperatures are higher.
