Caribbean vacationers will find that St. Thomas weather in January is a nice mix of warm temperatures and low risk of rain.

Sunshine, warm breezes and blue skies fill the majority of the days, with a few sprinkles in between.

Eastern Caribbean cruises make frequent visits to St. Thomas. January is one of the better times for them to make their stop. Travelers usually have no need to worry about rain jackets or umbrellas.

Rainfall in January

St. Thomas rainfall in January averages a modest two inches, according to the U.S. National Weather Service. January is one of the months with the smallest amount of rain, barely beating February and March.

In contrast, rainfall averages more than five inches a month from September through November.

Caribbean weather in January begins the drier months, and this pattern continues throughout March. When April begins, rainfall slowly becomes more frequent until it reaches a high point in October.

The island does have higher temperatures in July and August, but they also have higher amounts of rain.

This temperature does not vary much through the course of the year. Vacationers who want hotter temperatures will have to wait until July or August when temperatures approach 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 Celsius.

January’s average low is 72 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 Celsius, which usually occurs during at night. This low temperature is one of the coldest of the year. Although this is the low, it is still plenty warm enough for many people to wear shorts and T-shirts.

Seawater remains warm and comfortable for swimming during the month of January except sometimes for early mornings.

The best part about traveling to St. Thomas in January is the small amount of precipitation. The only other months with a smaller average are February and March—also fine months to travel there. In fact, they are even better because of warmer temperatures.
