St. Thomas, an island located in the heart of the Caribbean, is known for its widespread entertainment, duty free shopping, and beautiful beaches.

The island's weather in March is sunny, warm and mildly breezy, usually an ideal combination for vacation. March falls in the middle of the island's dry season, which runs from December to May. During this time, there is little rain and no chance of hurricanes.

The only downside to visiting St. Thomas during this season is that the island can become crowded by tourists. March tourism in the Caribbean is often higher than normal because of families and college students on spring break.

Visitors can avoid crowds by knowing where to go and how to plan a trip.

Rainfall Levels

It rains very little in St. Thomas in March. The island receives on average 1.5 inches of rainfall during the month, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.

Most of this rainfall comes in the form of light sporadic showers that pass quickly, lasting only minutes and sometimes seconds.

Because of the rain, the islands can sometimes have a high amount of cloud cover. The clouds move quickly, and a day that is overcast in the morning will often be clear by midday.

On average, the Virgin Islands receive 40 inches of rainfall per year. Most of this rainfall occurs during the wet season, also known as hurricane season, which runs from June to November.

During these months, the average monthly rainfall rises to more than five inches.

St. Thomas Temperatures

Throughout the year, the average monthly high temperature in the Virgin Islands is 88 degrees Fahrenheit or 31 Celsius. The average monthly low temperature is 75 degrees or 24 Celsius.

In March, the average high temperature is slightly cooler than the yearly average at 86 Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius. The average monthly low is 73 Fahrenheit or 23 Celsius.

Temperatures in St. Thomas can rise to the low 90s in the summer months, July, August and September. Temperatures cool off from December to May, making the winter months a good time to visit for travelers wanting to experience the Caribbean without dealing with the heat.

The air can feel humid on the islands year round, but a constant, light breeze can help the air feel cooler and drier than it is.

The sea temperatures in March hover in the upper 70s Fahrenheit. They are usually more comfortable in the afternoons than the mornings. Water temperatures do not fluctuate much throughout the year.
