St. Thomas weather in May offers plenty of warm temperatures with only a slight increase in the risk of rain.

This eastern Caribbean cruise port is popular for great beaches and duty-free shopping. It also has some of the warmest weather in the Caribbean, especially from late spring through the summer.

That warm weather includes the month of May.

St. Thomas Temperatures in May

The average high temperature in St. Thomas during May is 88 degrees Fahrenheit or about 30 Celsius, according to the U.S. National Weather Service. The average low is 76 Fahrenheit or 23 Celsius.

The average daytime temperatures are about two degrees higher in May than the coolest months of the year, which are December, January and February. But the nighttime temperatures are four degrees warmer, which makes a big difference in water temperatures.

Water temperatures in May average about 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 26 Celsius. Average water temperatures stay between the daytime highs and nighttime lows. They will feel cooler in the early mornings and warmer in the afternoons.

Average Rainfall

February and March are the driest months of the year at St. Thomas with an average rainfall of about one and a half inches a month.

April has about twice as much rain at nearly three inches historically during the month, according to the U.S. National Weather Service. In May, rainfall usually climbs a little higher and stays around that level each month until September through November. The average then jumps to between five and six inches.

An average of three inches of rain during the month is about average for many Caribbean islands. It is usually not enough to ruin a vacation.

St. Thomas weather in May has some of the best weather of the year. Although the risk of rain is higher than winter and early spring, the warm temperatures should appeal to fans of beaches and other water activities.
