St. Thomas Weather in February

Although winter still lingers in the northern hemisphere, St. Thomas weather in February manages to fight off the cold.

Weather wise, February also is the best month to go to St. Thomas.

This northeastern Caribbean island is a hugely popular destination in the chain known as the U.S. Virgin Islands.

About three times as many people visit the U.S. Virgin Islands by cruise than people who come for a stayover visit such as a week.

The majority of cruise ships stop at Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the islands.

February stayover tourism to the U.S. Virgin Islands is about equal to January. But it is not as high as March and December, which are the two most popular months of the year, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

Temperatures in February


The average high temperature in Charlotte Amalie during February is 85 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 degrees Celsius, according to the Southeast Regional Climate Center.

The average high is warmer than many Caribbean destinations in February, most of which hover in the low 80s Fahrenheit.

The average low temperature, occurring mainly at night, is 72 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 Celsius.

The above numbers are averages over a 40-year period, but the actual temperatures during any one February may be higher or lower than the average.

Rainfall in February


St. Thomas in February is usually a dry place to visit. The average rainfall in February for is the lowest point of the year, the SRCC says.

Total precipitation is 1.45 inches a year over the last 40 years, which slightly edges out March, another low month.

By comparison, average rainfall exceeds five inches in September through November during the annual Caribbean hurricane season.

Is February a Good Time to Go?


For a combination of warm temperatures and low rainfall, St. Thomas weather in February offers the best time to go for anyone planning a cruise visit or a longer-term stayover visit.

March has similar weather, but it also is a popular time to visit with more crowds and higher prices.
