The weather in St. Thomas during August has an average high temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit and average rainfall of 3.4 inches.

St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands is one of the warmest islands in the Caribbean. Like most Caribbean islands, it has high rainfall during the annual hurricane season that goes from June 1 to Nov. 30. But St. Thomas is safer than many islands in August.

Hurricanes and tropical storms that pass through the Caribbean rarely hit an island directly. Instead, they pass nearby and put vacations at risk with heavy rains and strong winds.

St. Thomas Rain in August

The historical average of 3.4 inches of rain during the month comes from 30 years of records by the U.S. National Weather Service.

Although total rainfall in a certain month varies somewhat from year to year, it tends to stay within a range over time. As a result, vacationers have a better chance at guessing the risk of rain for a certain island during a certain month.

In the case of St. Thomas, the average of 3.4 inches in August is better than the island's average of more than five inches each from September through November. It is not as good as the average of less than two inches a month from January through March.

The island also has lower average rainfall from April through July, although not as low as the winter months.

St. Thomas Temperatures in August

The average high temperature in August of 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 Celsius is the hottest month of the year for St. Thomas.

But it is only about four degrees hotter than the cooler months from December through March.

Temperatures on the island are more predictable and stay in a much smaller range than the average monthly rainfall.

Vacationers who like warm weather will find it almost any time of the year in St. Thomas. August has plenty of warmth, but it also has a somewhat higher risk of rain.
