February weather in St. Lucia is the driest of the year with temperatures in the low 80s Fahrenheit.

This pretty island in the southeastern Caribbean Sea attracts more than 600,000 cruise visitors and more than 400,000 overnight vacationers every year, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The visitor statistics show that February is more popular with overnight visitors than in January. But the island is not as popular as it is in March or December, which are the most popular months of the year for vacationers.

Temperatures in February

The average high temperature during the month is 84 degrees Fahrenheit or about 29 Celsius, the St. Lucia Meteorological Service reports. This average daytime high is the same as January.

St. Lucia's average nighttime low temperature is about 74 Fahrenheit or 23 Celsius. The average highs and lows make January and February the coldest months of the year for the island.

Seawater temperatures hover between the highs and lows. They usually are warm enough for swimming, although morning seawater is cooler than the afternoon.

Average Rain in February

The island is not the wettest island in the Caribbean. But it is above average with total rainfall and total days with rain each month.

February is part of a dry season that lasts from January through May. It rains about two inches each month during this dry season.

In contrast, rainfall averages about eight inches apiece in September and October during the high point of the Caribbean hurricane season.

It rains an average of 15 days during the month. January has 18 rain days, March and May have 14, and April is the lowest with 12.

By comparison, the island has 20 or more days with rain from July through November.

Whether to Go in February

February is one of the better months to visit St. Lucia. Visitors will take advantage of the warm weather to get away from northern winters.

But beach lovers may want to wait until March, April or May for warmer temperatures and about the same risk of rain.
