St. Lucia weather in April helps explain why eastern Caribbean cruises are so popular in the spring.
April is part of St. Lucia’s dry season, which usually goes from January through May.
St. Lucia is a popular cruise destination in part because it’s one of the southernmost islands in the Caribbean and as a result has warmer weather. It also happens to be one of the prettiest islands, at least in my opinion.
Great weather helps too.
St. Lucia Temperatures in April
April isn’t the warmest month of the year in St. Lucia, but it’s pretty close. The average high temperature in St. Lucia during April is nearly 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius, according to the St. Lucia Meteorological Service. The average low temperature is 76 degrees Fahrenheit or 24 Celsius.
The low temperature, which is usually at night, is warmer than most Caribbean islands in April. That matters because nighttime temperatures cool seawater. Swimming in the morning is more comfortable as a result.
Unlike northern destinations such as the Bahamas, St. Lucia seawater in April is usually comfortable enough for swimming throughout the day. Water temperatures usually range about midway between the daily high and low air temperatures. Water may feel chilly at times in the morning during the winter, especially in combination with a wind chill factor. But it’s usually not a problem in April.
Average temperatures are only about two degrees Fahrenheit higher in the summer and two degrees lower in the winter.
Rainfall in April
The average rainfall in St. Lucia during April is a little more than two inches, according to the St. Lucia Meteorological Service. This average is about the low point of the year.
The average rainfall is about the same as February and March. January and May average about three inches.
Even better, it rains an average of 12 days during April, which is the lowest total of any month during the year.
By comparison, the total days with rain in St. Lucia is 20 or more per month from July through November. Total rainfall reaches nearly eight inches a month in September and October during the peak activity of the annual Caribbean hurricane season.
Should I Go in April?
St. Lucia weather in April has one of the best combinations of low risk for rain and warm daytime temperatures. It’s an ideal month for travelers to visit the island.
Both cruise and overnight visitors who have a choice on which month to visit can wait for mildly warmer weather later in the year. But the risk of rain climbs quickly.
