Dominica weather in September is so rainy that tourism from hotel and cruise visitors takes a plunge.
The eastern Caribbean island of Dominica has much higher rainfall than most Caribbean islands throughout the year. It’s why the island is known for rainforests and waterfalls.
But the risk of rain varies greatly between the “dry season” from February through April and the rainy season, which is most of the year.
Dominica Temperatures in September
Dominica’s high temperatures in September are among the highest of the year with an average of 87 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius, according to the Dominica Meteorological Service. The average low temperature, usually at night, is 75 degrees Fahrenheit or 24 Celsius.
These temperatures are nearly the same as June through August. By comparison, winter temperatures are only slightly cooler. They have average daytime temperatures in the low 80s Fahrenheit or high 20s Celsius.
Dominica is not known for beaches, but anyone who visits a beach in September should find that water temperatures feel quite comfortable.

This average compares to a low of about four inches in February and a high of 15 inches in October and November. So September is much higher than average but not as bad as the following two months.
Rainfall jumps in September because the annual Caribbean hurricane season impacts Dominica more than most islands. It rarely gets hit directly by a hurricane. Instead, it has high rainfall from hurricanes and tropical storms that pass nearby.
September is very much a part of the Dominica hurricane and rainy season. Travel planners will find a lower risk of rain earlier in the year. Otherwise, travelers may want to go elsewhere in the Caribbean if they plan to visit the region in September, especially the drier islands of Aruba and Curacao.
