Dominica weather in August has the highest temperatures of the year along with plenty of heavy rains.

Heavy rainfall is common in Dominica, but it ranges wildly between the “dry” season, which isn’t so dry, and an intense rainy season. Dominica is one of the rainiest islands in the Caribbean.

Dominica is an eastern Caribbean island that has dense rainforests and plenty of waterfalls because of the rain. As a result of the heavy rains, it’s a less frequent stop on eastern Caribbean cruises.

Dominica Temperatures in August

Dominica’s daytime temperatures in August reach the highest level of the year with an average daytime temperature of 87 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius, according to the Dominica Meteorological Service. The average nighttime temperature is 76 degrees Fahrenheit or nearly 25 Celsius.

These temperatures are only slightly higher than June, July and September. Winter temperatures are slightly cooler with average highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit or mid 20s Celsius.

Anyone who wants to spend time in August at one of the few Dominica beaches will find comfortable water temperatures that stay between the daytime highs and nighttime lows.

Dominica historically has heavy rains in August. The average is nearly 10 inches, according to the Dominica Meteorological Service. It is among the highest of any destination in the Caribbean during the month.

This average compares to about four inches in February, which is the lowest level of the year, and a high of 15 inches in October and November. So August is in the upper end of that range.

The average rainfall jumps in August because the annual Caribbean hurricane season brings more rain to Dominica than most islands.

Anyone who plans a Caribbean cruise will find that February through April is a better time to visit Dominica. They should think twice about going other months of the year.
