Curaçao weather in May offers some of the warmest and driest weather in the entire Caribbean during the month.

This southwestern Caribbean island near the coast of Venezuela is part of the ABC group of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. The three islands are known for being among the driest destinations in the Caribbean.

Aruba attracts the most tourists of the three. Curaçao is more popular as a cruise port, but it also has some of the same attractions as Aruba, starting with Dutch culture, colonial history, colorful buildings and great weather.

The ABC islands also are among the warmest islands in the Caribbean because they are some of the most southern islands in the region.

Curaçao Temperatures in May

The average high temperature for Curaçao in May is 89 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department (of) Curaçao. The average low temperature is 79 Fahrenheit or 26 Celsius.

Water temperatures are warm to balmy, so they are comfortable all day. The average water temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 27 Celsius.

By comparison, daytime temperatures reach a high point of the year of 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 Celsius in August and September.

Rainfall in May

May is the second driest month of the year for Curaçao. It has only slightly more rain than the driest month, which is March.

The average rainfall in Curaçao during May is less than one inch, according to the Meteorological Department (of) Curaçao.

March through June all average less than one inch of rain apiece.

By comparison, the island averages about two inches a month in January and July through September. The total increases to more than three inches from October through December during a modest annual rainy season. Aruba and Bonaire have similar rain patterns.

Most of the Caribbean has a major increase in rain from June through November because of the annual hurricane season. Curaçao has a small increase by comparison.

Whether to Go in May

Curaçao is one of the warmest and driest Caribbean islands in May. Aruba is a more popular island, but Dutch Curaçao has appeal for anyone who has already been to Aruba and wants a new experience.

Temperatures in the summer are only slightly higher. So visitors looking for warm weather will find May is almost as good as June through August. Even better, the risk of rain is lower.
