St. Maarten Weather in October - Temperatures and Rainfall

St. Maarten weather in October takes a small break from the heavy rains that typically fall during the peak months of the Caribbean hurricane season.

It’s a surprising change for the bad weather that typically hits the Caribbean, especially in September and October.

The official Caribbean hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30. September and October get the worst of it for many destinations.

Most islands don’t experience any direct impact of hurricanes or tropical storms. Most vacationers are simply stuck in their hotel rooms for a day or two while the bad weather comes and goes.

St. Maarten doesn’t exactly get away from the bad stuff in October, but it does better than September and especially November.

The following numbers are based on a 30-year summary of the island’s weather. Actual results will vary from year to year.

Rainfall

Total rainfall for the month is about 4.5 inches, which is slightly better than the five inches in September and six inches in November.

The total number of days it rains is 14, which is somewhat in line with other Caribbean destinations.

It may even thunder about three or four days during the month.

Beachgoers may want to know that the average cloud cover is only slightly higher in the fall (including October) than other months of the year.

Temperatures

Don’t worry about staying warm in St. Maarten during October or just about any other month of the year.

The island has consistently warm weather year round with average highs in the low to upper 80s Fahrenheit.

In October, the average high temperature is 88 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 78 degrees.

It is possible for temperatures to reach into the 90s. The highest recorded temperature was about 94 degrees.

Sea water temperature is quite comfortable as well with an average of 83 degrees.

Trade winds, which can be quite heavy in the Caribbean, also are comfortable with an average speed of about 10 miles per hour.

Whether to Go

Whether to go to St. Maarten in October is not as easy of a decision as whether to go to Cozumel in October. That Mexican island usually gets drenched during the month.

If October is the preferred month for vacationing in the Caribbean, other islands have lower chances of rainfall, especially Aruba.

If St. Maarten is the preferred choice and any month is an option, then January through July are better choices because of much lower risk of rain.
