St. Maarten weather in April is some of the best of the year for this southeastern Caribbean island.

The combination of warm spring temperatures and some of the lowest rain of the year is one reason why April is a good month for cruise and hotel vacationers to visit St. Maarten.

The island attracts about 500,000 hotel visitors and 2 million cruise visitors every year, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization. It is known for its popular cruise port at Philipsburg on the Dutch side of the island.

March and December are the most popular months to visit, followed by January, February and then April. But April is warmer than the other four months, which makes it more attractive for beach lovers.

Temperatures in April

The average daytime temperature in St. Maarten during April is 86 degrees Fahrenheit or about 30 Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department of St. Maarten. This is nearly the same as the average daytime temperature for the entire year, which is 87 Fahrenheit.

The average low temperature, mostly at night, is 75 degrees Fahrenheit or 24 Celsius.

Water temperatures stay about midway between the daytime highs and nighttime lows. For beach goers, the water is usually coolest in the early mornings and warmest in the mid to late afternoons. But water temperatures will normally feel comfortable for the entire day, unlike the winter months.

Average highs and lows between May through October are slightly warmer than April. But most of those months also have more rain.

Cruise and hotel visitors will find that mornings are usually best for land activities and afternoons best for beach and water activities.

Rainfall in April

April is part of St. Maarten’s dry season. The average rainfall in St. Maarten during April is less than three inches, according to the Meteorological Department of St. Maarten.

The total rainfall is slightly higher than the two inches on average in February, March and June. It is equal to the total in January and July. All other months have more rain.

The number of days with rain is lowest of the year in April at eight days on average, according to the St. Maarten meteorological service. April along with March have the most sunshine of the year. These are more reasons why April is one of the best times to visit St. Maarten.

The risk of rain is especially higher during the annual Caribbean hurricane season. It officially begins June 1 and ends Nov. 30.

April in St. Maarten lies outside of the hurricane season, so there is almost no risk of a hurricane and only a small risk of a tropical storm.

The combination of low risk of rain and warm temperatures make April one of the best months to visit St. Maarten.
