Cruise and overnight visitors keep St. Maarten in February a busy time of year for this southeastern Caribbean island.

The island receives about 500,000 overnight visitors and 2 million cruise visitors every year, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

Island tourism reaches a high point from December through March because of northerners wanting to escape from snowy winters.

The island is popular with cruise visitors because of a major port at Philipsburg, which has a large shopping and dining district. The island also has a major beach at Orient Bay, the French village of Marigot and access to several nearby islands.

February tourism is about the same as the other months during this high season. But St. Maarten’s February weather is not quite the same as the others.

February Temperatures

St. Maarten weather in February has an average high temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Service of Netherland Antilles and Aruba says. The average low is 74 Fahrenheit or 23 Celsius.

These temperatures are warm compared to northern winter temperatures, but they also are the low point of the year for St. Maarten. The island reaches an average high of 89 Fahrenheit during the summer.

Temperatures are the second coolest of the year after January.

February Rainfall

Rainfall in St. Maarten during the month also reaches a low point of the year with an historical average of two inches.

February is tied with March and June for the driest months of the year. April is slightly higher with three inches.

By comparison, rainfall on the island reaches an average high point of six inches in November during the annual Caribbean hurricane season.

Although February is a good time to visit St. Maarten because of low rainfall, anyone planning an overnight or cruise vacation to the island will find warmer temperatures with the same low risk of rain in March, April and June.
