Jamaica weather in September has warm to hot temperatures and a higher than normal risk of rain.
These Montego Bay and Falmouth statistics, which come from the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, aren’t nearly as bad as October when the risk of rain jumps even higher.
September is normally the worst month of the annual Caribbean hurricane for most destinations in the region. Jamaica is an exception.
Despite worse weather in October, September is the lowest month of the year for tourism to the island, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
Jamaica has about 2 million overnight visitors and 1.5 million cruise visitors every year. It is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean.
Rainfall in September
Montego Bay on the northwest side of the island, near the cruise port at Falmouth, has an average rainfall of five inches in September and 11 total days with rain, according to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica.
Kingston on the southeast side also has about the same amount of average rainfall and days with rain during the month.
Both locations have the same amount of rain in October at seven inches apiece. During that month, Montego Bay has 14 days with rain and Kingston has 13. October is the riskiest month to visit the island for weather.
By comparison, they have about one inch of rainfall and only five days of rain during March, which is the driest month of the dry season. March is the third most popular month for overnight visitors after July and December, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The average low temperature, mostly at night, is 74 degrees Fahrenheit or about 23 Celsius. Seawater temperatures stay warm and range about midway between the daily highs and nightly lows.
Although coastal destinations stay warm, the interior regions have cooler temperatures, especially in the mountains.
Temperatures are warm enough to attract visitors in September. But the high risk of rain makes the month a poor time to visit the island unless there is a good weather forecast in the short term.
