Jamaica's average weather in September has rainfall of five inches and a high temperature of 88 degrees Fahrenheit.

These Montego Bay statistics, which come from the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, aren't nearly as bad as October when average rainfall jumps to seven inches.

September is normally the worst month of the annual Caribbean hurricane for most destinations in the region. Jamaica is an exception.

Despite worse weather in October, September is the lowest month of the year for tourism to the island, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

Jamaica has about 2 million overnight visitors and 1.5 million cruise visitors every year. It is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean.

Rainfall in September

Montego Bay on the northwest side of the island, near the cruise port at Falmouth, has an average rainfall of five inches in September and 11 total days with rain, according to 30 years of historical data.

Kingston on the southeast side also has about the same amount of average rainfall and days with rain during the month.

Both locations have the same amount of rain at seven inches in October. Montego Bay has 14 days with rain and Kingston has 13. October is the riskiest month to visit the island.

By comparison, they have about one inch of rainfall and only five days of rain during March, which is the driest month of the dry season. March is the third most popular month for overnight visitors after July and December.

Temperatures in September

The average high temperature for these coastal cities is 88 degrees Fahrenheit or 31 Celsius.

The average low temperature, mostly at night, is 74 degrees Fahrenheit or about 23 Celsius. Seawater temperatures will stay warm and range about halfway between the daily highs and nightly lows.

Although coastal destinations will stay warm, the interior regions will have cooler temperatures especially in the mountains.

Temperatures are warm enough to attract visitors in September. But the high risk of rain makes the month a poor time to go.
