Jamaica’s weather in March is among the best of the year, making the month ideal for either a western Caribbean cruise that visits there or a longer-term hotel vacation.

Western Caribbean cruises are popular during the winter and spring months because rainfall in that part of the region reaches the low point of the year.

This dry season is much different than the hurricane season that begins June 1 and goes through Nov. 30.

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica tracks rainfall and temperature averages for Montego Bay and Kingston that provide guidance on the best months to visit Jamaica for good weather.

Jamaica Temperatures in March

The popular resort city of Montego Bay is cooler in March than the capital city of Kingston. Montego Bay in March has an average high temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius during the day and about 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 Celsius at night, according to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica.

Montego Bay in March is attractive for its low risk of rain. But it may feel a bit cool for swimming, especially in the morning.

Beach lovers will find that later March will have warmer temperatures than early March in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril and other Jamaica destinations.

Jamaica’s average high temperatures reach into the 90s Fahrenheit in locations such as Kingston during the summer and high 80s in the milder Montego Bay.

Average Rainfall

The lack of rain in March is the reason why the month is ideal for a visit. Total rainfall averages only one inch in Montego Bay and Kingston, according to 30 years of historical data from the Meteorological Service.

By comparison, both locations average seven inches of rain during the peak of the rainy and hurricane season in October, according to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica.

The number of days with rain is another reason for Jamaica’s appealing weather in March. Both Kingston and Montego Bay average five rain days during the month, which is their lowest level of the year.

Montego Bay has 13 days with rain and Kingston has 14 days during the peak rainy season in October.

Should We Go in March?

Jamaica weather March is ideal for travelers, especially for families on spring break from schools.

April may be a better month for anyone who can go then and who enjoys water activities. Rainfall is slightly higher on average during the month, but temperatures are higher as well.
