Jamaica Weather in February: Rain, Temperatures

Visitors will find Jamaica weather in February usually has moderate rainfall and cooler than average weather.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has compiled weather statistics over a 30-year period for Montego Bay and Kingston. The historical data shows a pattern of warm weather and low risk of rain.
Jamaica attracts nearly 1 million hotel vacationers and about 750,000 cruise passengers each year. Cruise visitors flock to Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Falmouth and Port Antonio. Hotel visitors stay in Negril, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay.
The island has the one of the lowest levels of visitors during the year in February, although it does much better that month than September through November during the Caribbean hurricane season, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
Temperatures in February
Jamaica temperatures in February are historically among the coolest of the year with an average high of about 83 degrees Fahrenheit or about 28 Celsius, according to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica.
The average low temperature in February is about 69 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius, the Meteorological Service of Jamaica says.
February is tied with January for the year’s lowest temperatures. After February, average daytime temperatures start to climb until they reach a peak in the summer of about 88 Fahrenheit or 31 Celsius.
Seawater temperatures usually hover about midway between the daily highs and lows. Water is often chilly for swimming during February because nighttime low temperatures bring down the seawater temperature. Trade winds make swimming even chillier.
Although some swimmers will find warmer water in the afternoons, beach lovers should know that Jamaica in February is not an ideal month to visit.
Still, temperatures are quite a bit warmer than northern destinations.

Rainfall in February
The island has less rain in February than most months of the year. But it is not the best month for clear skies and the lowest risk of rain. March is a better choice.
Over a 30-year history, the Montego Bay area has had an average of 2.7 inches of rain in February.
Again, February is tied with January. Rainfall drops to one inch in March—the lowest of the year—and reaches about two inches in April.
Each month for the remainder of the year averages four inches or more except for July, which often sees a dip down again.

Whether to Go in February
For people who like clear skies, Jamaica weather in February is better than average for most months of the year with a low risk of rain. But it also is the coolest month of the year along with January.
February is a good month to visit for people from the north who want warmer temperatures and a break from winter. It is not the best month for anyone who likes to spend time in the water. Better months are March and April.
