Cozumel weather in February is misleading because of warm days in the 80s Fahrenheit but cool nights that drop into the 60s. At least it’s usually dry.
One of the largest islands of Mexico, Cozumel is a hugely popular destination for western Caribbean cruises. It’s also popular with people staying for an entire vacation because of its beaches, great snorkeling, Mayan ruins and day trips for shopping and dining to Playa del Carmen across the water.
Although the daytime temperatures are quite warm, the nighttime temperatures are a bit cooler than most Caribbean destinations in February. The wind chill factor also is a bit discouraging at times for anyone who likes to spend time in the water or on the beaches.
The following averages come from a 30-year history from Mexico’s government meteorology service. They will vary somewhat from year to year, but in general they offer guidance on what to expect each month.
Temperatures in February
Cozumel temperatures in February have an average high of 84 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius, according to Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, the government’s national weather service. It’s a warm month compared to the cold winter days in the north, but it’s also the second lowest average of the year in Cozumel after January.
The average low temperature (mostly at night) is 67 degrees Fahrenheit or 19 Celsius—about the same as January.
The nighttime temperatures matter because of their impact on seawater temperatures. Seawater temperatures usually average about halfway between the highs and lows of the day. They will be at their lowest point in the morning hours.
Coupled with the Caribbean’s trade winds, they may make swimming uncomfortable at times in the mornings.
Otherwise, daytime temperatures are warm enough for almost all outdoor activities.

Rainfall
The first consideration for anyone planning a trip to the Caribbean should be the average rainfall during the month.
The region has an annual hurricane season that dumps a great deal of rain on many of the major destinations, especially in September and October.
Other months may have spikes in rainfall, but not Cozumel in February. The average rainfall in Cozumel during February is only about 2.4 inches, according to Servicio Meteorológico Nacional. It is low for an island that sees as much as nine inches a month in the fall.
February rainfall is the lowest for Cozumel except for March and April. They also happen to be peak months for cruise visitors.
The average number of days it rains in February is 6.5. It again is the lowest except for March and April and is among the lowest of all Caribbean destinations.

Whether to Go
February weather in Cozumel is above average because of the low risk of rain, but it’s not the best of the year, especially because of low nighttime temperatures. It’s clear that anyone wanting to go there will probably have warmer weather in March or April.
But for that reason, prices for cruises and hotels will likely be higher in March or April. So consider a February trip in particular if better discounts are available.
