Cozumel Weather in December - Average Temperatures and Rainfall

Cozumel weather in December is warm enough in the daytime, a bit cool in the evenings and even cooler in the water for anyone who likes to swim.

December is the first month after the annual Caribbean hurricane season, which officially ends on Nov. 30.

It also is the start of winter, so Cozumel historically sees a moderate amount of rainfall and dropping temperatures.

The following average temperatures and rainfall occurred over a 30-year period. The actual results will vary each December.

The average high temperature during the month is 83.5 degrees Fahrenheit, which is tied with January as the coolest month of the year. The average high typically takes place during the daytime.

That average high compares to 90 degrees or more in May through August.

The average low temperature in December is 68.5 degrees, which isn’t as cool as January and February but cooler than the rest of the year.

Temperatures will be somewhat warmer in early December and somewhat cooler in the second half of the month.

Average Rainfall

The average rainfall for Cozumel in December is a little more than four inches. That’s quite a bit better than the nearly 10 inches that fall in September.

But it isn’t as good as the three inches or less in January through April. The low point of the year is a little more than one inch in March.

It rains about 10 days per month, better than June through November but not as good as January through May.

What makes winter in Cozumel a bit cooler than the temperatures show is the trade winds.

A combination of lower air temperatures, lower water temperatures and trade winds that can sometimes go as high as 20 miles per hour or more will make swimming and spending time on the beach less comfortable.

Cozumel is a great place to visit in December for anyone planning to spend time shopping and dining in San Miguel or taking a day trip over to nearby Playa del Carmen.
