Barbados weather in December is a transition month between the island’s rainy season and dry season. The risk of rain is moderate while temperatures remain moderately warm.

Barbados is a popular port of call with eastern Caribbean cruises. It is especially popular during the dry season from January through May.

September and October are the least popular times to visit Barbados as well as the rest of the Caribbean, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). In contrast, tourism to Barbados reaches the highest level of the year in December, the CTO says. Northerners flee winter weather and take advantage of Christmas break from schools.

Barbados Temperatures in December

Barbados temperatures in December have an average high of 84 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius, according to the Barbados Meteorological Services. The average low, usually at night, is 76 degrees Fahrenheit or 24 Celsius.

These temperatures are near the lowest point of the year, which is in January and February at 83 degrees Fahrenheit or 28 Celsius.

Water temperatures in December normally feel comfortable during the day, especially in the afternoons. They usually hover between the daytime highs and nighttime lows.

Rainfall in December

December is the first month after the end of the Caribbean hurricane season. The region usually has nearly zero risk from hurricanes and tropical storms.

For most Caribbean destinations, rainfall is highest in September. For Barbados, the highest is in October, but November has only slightly less. In December, the average rainfall drops to less than four inches, according to the Barbados Meteorological Services. It is moderate but still above average for the island.

In contrast, Barbados rainfall is usually lowest in February and March with an average of less than two inches. January, April and May also have a low risk of rain with an average of a little more than two inches. These months are popular times to visit Barbados because of the low rainfall risk.

Travel planners find that Barbados weather in December is not as good as March through May but much better than September and October.
