Bahamas Weather in January: Rain, Temperatures

January weather in Nassau Bahamas may feel like one long sunny day while the majority of the northern hemisphere faces cloudy skies and low temperatures.
The end of hurricane season and the beginning of the tourist season make the Bahamas appealing in January. But it has more appeal for people who enjoy land activities than water activities because of cooler weather.
Because of their location, the Bahamas have similar weather to Florida, which lies less than 200 miles away.
Average Nassau Temperatures
While many towns and countries in the northern hemisphere brace themselves for winter’s onslaught, temperatures in the Bahamas feel like late spring or early summer.
Bahamas temperatures in January have an average high of 77 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 Celsius, according to the Bahamas Department of Meteorology. The average low temperature in January is 64 degrees Fahrenheit or nearly 18 Celsius.
Because of their northern proximity to the Caribbean, the Bahamas are a bit cooler than other islands in the winter months.
Morning in the islands is likely to have average temperatures in the low to mid 60s Fahrenheit or high teens Celsius. Temperatures usually rise to the mid 70s Fahrenheit or low 20s Celsius by midday.
Because of their slightly warmer winter temperatures, Nassau Bahamas is an ideal place for northern tourists seeking a warmer vacation. But seawater temperatures are usually not warm enough for swimming.
By comparison, average highs in July and August are between 87 and 89 degrees Fahrenheit or low 30s Celsius.
January Rainfall in Nassau
The average rainfall for Nassau, Bahamas, in January is about two inches, according to the Bahamas Department of Meteorology. It is near the low point of the year.
January on average is a dry month for the Bahamas. The winter months, December through March, usually have little rainfall.
Because of the low amount of rainfall, the humidity level in the Bahamas is also low in January. Tourists can expect a dry, arid climate for their visit.
There is little cloud cover in the Bahamas in January, making for bright, clear, sunny skies many days of the month.

Hurricane season in the Caribbean runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.
Visits during these months is risky with weather, and visitors are advised to check the National Weather Service for storm alerts before making their trips and for the duration of their time in the Bahamas.
In January, the threat of hurricanes is virtually nonexistent. The cluster of islands is, however, marked by a constant light breeze. The breeze is mild, pleasant and rarely exceeds 16 miles per hour.

People looking to escape the cold confines of their homes in winter, but aren’t ready for the scorching temperatures of summer, will enjoy the mild climate of the Bahamas in January.
The days are sunny and pleasantly warm, and the chance of rain is low. The calm, temperate month of January is a good time to visit the Bahamas.
