Vacationers hoping for good weather in Cancun during June may find the risk of rain is higher than normal.

Cancun is one of our favorite destinations because it is quick and easy to reach from many U.S. and Canadian airports compared to other Caribbean destinations. Airline tickets are usually less expensive as well.

The city, resort district and surrounding area have plenty of attractions to keep people busy besides lying on the beach all day.

But it’s not much fun when the risk of rain is higher. That’s the case for June at this popular hotel and resort destination on the Caribbean coast of Mexico.

Cancun Rainfall in June

Cancun averages more than five inches of rain in June, according to historical records from Mexico’s National Water Commission.

It’s a jump from the more than three inches in May and the two inches or less from February through April during Cancun’s peak dry season.

It could be worse. Rainfall averages 10 inches a month in September and October during the most active time of the Caribbean hurricane season.

Rain just doesn’t fall in higher amounts during June. It also falls more often. The area averages 11 days with rain compared to four to six from February through May. October is the worst month with 16 days.

Temperatures in June

But at least it’s warm. In fact, it’s one of the warmest Caribbean destinations in June.

The average high temperature is more than 91 degrees Fahrenheit or 33 Celsius. The phase of average high temperatures above 90 Fahrenheit begins in May and continues through September.

These daytime temperatures along with warm nighttime temperatures assure beach lovers that the seawater is always comfortable for swimming.

Cancun weather in June is appealing for people who like their beaches hot. But other Caribbean destinations have a lower risk of rain and more comfortable temperatures.
