Cancun weather in April is ideal for anyone who wants to visit this Mexican resort city for the first time—or the second or third time.

This city on the Caribbean coast of Mexico has an average high temperature in April of 89 degrees Fahrenheit or nearly 32 degrees Celsius. The average rainfall is about one inch.

No month during the entire year has less total rainfall or fewer days of rain than April, according to 30 years of historical weather data from the country’s National Water Commission and the Mexico Tourism Ministry.

Cancun doesn’t have a cruise port like the western Caribbean cruise destination of Cozumel, which is only 40 miles to the south.

But it is easy to reach by car from Cozumel via a ferry from Playa del Carmen, which is a short hop across the water from Cozumel.

Otherwise, Cancun is a hugely popular resort destination known for beaches, nightlife and nearby Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza.

It also is attractive because of easy access from U.S. airports and low airline ticket prices compared to other, more distant destinations in the Caribbean.

Rainfall in April

The lack of rain is the biggest reason to vacation in Cancun during April.

Total rainfall historically is a little more than one inch during the month. April is part of a brief dry season that ends that month and starts in February. February and March average about one and a half to two inches total. July also has lower than average rainfall at about two inches.

April also is the best month of the year for the fewest number of days that it rains. On average, the city has only four days of rain.

By comparison, September and October average 10 inches of rain and 15 days with rain.

Temperatures in April

Cancun temperatures in April are nearly ideal because they have risen enough to make water temperatures comfortable for swimming most of the time.

The average high temperature during the month is 89 degrees Fahrenheit or nearly 32 degrees Celsius.

The average low temperature is 74 degrees Fahrenheit or 23 degrees Celsius.

January through March have high temperatures in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit. But nighttime temperatures are cool enough to make swimming in the ocean uncomfortable and sometimes nearly impossible.

By comparison, summer months experience high temperatures in the low 90s Fahrenheit and low 30s Celsius, but they also have more rain.

The heat and humidity also can make people uncomfortable who take part in land activities during the day.

Vacation planners will find that Cancun weather in April make that time of the year hard to ignore.
