Dominican Republic Weather in February: Rain, Temperatures

Dominican Republic weather in February is moderately warm, with temperatures ranging from the low 70s to the low 80s Fahrenheit.

Punta Cana and Puerto Plata are the two most popular tourist destinations. They are only 200 miles apart, but Punta Cana is on the eastern coast and Puerto Plata is on the northern coast of Dominican Republic. They usually have very different weather, including in February.

For Punta Cana, there are few days with rain in February because February is part of its dry season. The average rainfall amount is low, making it oftentimes a sunny oasis.

By contrast, Puerto Plata in February is in the middle of its rainy season.

Dominican Republic Temperatures in February

The average daily high temperature for Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic in February is 82 degrees Fahrenheit or nearly 28 Celsius, according to the country’s Office of National Meteorology.

The average daily low temperature is 71 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 Celsius. Low temperatures usually occur at night.

Puerto Plata is about one degree warmer.

Hikers and outdoor adventurers will be thankful for the slightly lower temperatures, as well as the constant, mild breeze characteristic of the island.

Temperatures remain steady throughout the island, but could get slightly cooler in the mountains and highest peaks.

Temperatures in the Dominican Republic do not vary much throughout the year. During the warmest months, July through September, the average high temperature is 87 degrees Fahrenheit or 31 Celsius. The average low is 76 degrees Fahrenheit or 24 Celsius.

Caribbean weather in February: all destinations

Rainfall

Rainfall in Punta Cana averages less than three inches during February, according to the Office of National Meteorology. On average, it rains only about six or seven days during the month. This amount of rain is typical for many Caribbean destinations in February.

Punta Cana, on the eastern point of the island and one of the most popular places to visit, has an average of 40 inches of rainfall per year. Most of that rainfall occurs during the hurricane season from June to November.

In contrast, rain in Puerto Plata averages more than five inches of rain in February. It’s above normal for most destinations during the month.

Rain in the Dominican Republic in February is most likely to occur at 5 p.m. It is least likely to occur at 11 a.m., meaning day trips are unlikely to be dampened by rain.

Should I Visit in February?

Regarding weather, the Dominican Republic is a good place to visit in February, especially in Punta Cana. The temperatures are warm, the breeze is pleasant and the likelihood of rain in Punta Cana is relatively low.
