Dominican Republic weather in August is warm in Punta Cana and Puerto Plata with nearly the same risk of rain. But Puerto Plata has a slight advantage.

Puerto Plata is a popular resort destination on the northern coast of Dominican Republic. The resort destination of Punta Cana, which also is quite popular, lies on the eastern tip of the island.

Punta Cana Weather in August

Punta Cana temperatures in August have an average high of 87 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius, according to the Dominican Republic National Office of Meteorology. The average low temperature is 77 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 Celsius.

Punta Cana historically averages about four inches of rain in August, which is similar to many Caribbean destinations during the month. This level is higher than July but about the same as June.

It also rains more often in August than July. The average in August is 10 days of rain versus about nine days in July and seven days each during the dry season from January through April. The August average is low compared to many Caribbean destinations during the month.

The weather in Puerto Plata in August is hotter than Punta Cana during the day and cooler at night. It has a slightly lower risk of rain than Punta Cana.

Puerto Plata temperatures in August have an average high temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 Celsius, according to the Dominican Republic National Office of Meteorology. The average low is 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 Celsius.

August is the second month of the dry season for Puerto Plata. Historically, it rains about three inches during the month, the National Office of Meteorology reports. It rains about nine days in August compared to eight days in July.

Should I Visit the Dominican Republic in August?

Dominican Republic weather in August offers one of the better months for anyone who wants to visit Punta Cana or Puerto Plata for warm weather and moderate risk of rain.

Puerto Plata is a better choice for hot weather and slightly lower risk of rain than Punta Cana.
