Panama Weather in April: Rain, Temperatures

Panama weather in April is both hot and wet. April is not the best month to visit Panama for good vacation weather.
Panama’s three most popular vacation spots are the Colón cruise port on the Caribbean coast, Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean coast and the Panama City cruise port on the Pacific coast.
Colón and Panama City are only 46 miles apart, even though they reside on opposite coasts of the country. They share similar weather. Bocas del Toro is 159 miles west of Colón.
Panama Temperatures in April
The average high temperature for Panama City in April is 96 degrees Fahrenheit or 26 Celsius, according to Hydrometeorological Panama, the government meteorological service. The average low temperature is 67 degrees Fahrenheit or about 19 Celsius.
Bocas del Toro has average high temperatures in April of 89 degrees Fahrenheit or 31 Celsius. The average low temperature is 71 Fahrenheit or 21 Celsius.
Colón doesn’t have official government weather statistics, but it is usually warmer than Bocas del Toro and not as warm as Panama City, according to nearby locations. The average high temperature is about 91 degrees Fahrenheit or 33 Celsius.
Panama has some of the most extreme high and low temperatures of any Central American vacation destinations.
Panama isn’t known for beaches, but water temperatures stay midway between the daytime highs and nighttime lows. In combination with trade winds, the water temperatures may feel cool in the mornings and quite warm in the afternoons.
Panama Rainfall in April
April is the final month of the dry season for Panama City. The monthly average rainfall for Panama City is less than three inches, according to Hydrometeorological Panama. By comparison, the average rainfall in May is nearly nine inches as the rainy season hits the area with strength.
Bocas del Toro has heavy rainfall throughout the year and averages more than 14 inches in April.
April is a transition month between the dry season and rainy season for Colón. The average rainfall is more than five inches. The risk of rain is higher toward the end of the month as the rainy season approaches.
Panama weather in April offers hot temperatures and a higher risk of rain. Travelers may find that January through March are better times to visit the country for milder temperatures and a lower risk of rain.
