Panama weather in November offers one of the wettest months of the year. Rain usually drenches the entire country.

One simple reason why both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts get almost equally drenched is that they are so close to each other. They only about 40 miles apart at the narrowest point of this Central American country.

Panama has three major tourist areas. They are Panama City on the west coast and Colon and Bocas del Toro on the east coast.

Colon and Panama City are access points to the Panama Canal, and both are major cruise ports.

Bocas del Toro lies about 350 miles west of Colon and Panama City. It is mainly a hotel destination. But they all share similar weather in November.

Nights are quite a bit cooler in November. Panama City averages 69 degrees Fahrenheit and 21 degrees Celsius. Bocas del Toro averages 71 degrees Fahrenheit / 22 degrees Celsius.

In fact, both destinations stay warm year round and vary only a few degrees each month.

Rain Inches

The Caribbean hurricane season is active from June through November every year. Most destinations see the worst weather in September followed by October and then November.

Panama City gets the worst in October and then November, when it rains an average of 10 inches, according to the Panama government meteorological service.

Bocas del Toro has averaged 11 inches during the month over a 30-year period, the WWO says.

These averages are high compared to another cruise destinations in the Mexico, Caribbean and Central America region.

Both locations have rain on a similar number of days each month—16 in Panama City and 17 in Bocas del Toro.

In contrast, Panama City averages only about one inch of rain per month from January through March. Bocas del Toro varies widely from month to month but has more total rainfall than Panama City.

Should I go to Panama in November?

November is one of the worst months of the year to visit Panama City, take a Panama Canal cruise or go on a western Caribbean cruise that stops at Colon. The chance of getting heavy rain is too high.

The same can be said about Bocas del Toro.

Anyone thinking about a cruise may find that December through April are the best times to visit the Canal.

Bocas del Toro often has months of heavy rain. Over a 30-year history, the best months to go there are January, March, May and October, according to the World Weather Organization.

As always, it is important to keep in mind that these numbers are simply averages and that actual weather will vary from year to year.
