Dominican Republic weather in September has a lower risk of rain than most Caribbean destinations.

The average weather in September for Punta Cana, the major resort destination, has rainfall of four inches. It isn’t the best month for weather in Punta Cana. But it is better than many other destinations during this peak month of the Caribbean hurricane season.

Puerto Plata, another resort destination near the cruise port of Amber Cove, does even better with average rainfall of less than three inches.

These 30-year averages come from the country’s National Meteorological Agency. Although they vary somewhat from year to year, they help vacation planners manage their expectations.

Punta Cana Weather in September

Punta Cana on the east coast of the island averages four inches of rainfall and 10 days with rain during the month.

Historically, rainfall is about the same in September as June, August and November. It is less than the five inches on average in May during a brief rainy season and six inches in October. It is the worst month of the year for rain in Punta Cana.

By comparison, Punta Cana has two to three inches of rain each month during the dry season from January through April. February through April average less than seven rain days each.

The average high temperature of nearly 88 degrees Fahrenheit or 31 Celsius makes September the warmest month of the year.
