Panama Weather in August: Rain, Temperatures

Panama weather in August historically has hot temperatures and plenty of rain. August is not the best month to visit Panama.
This Central American country has three major vacation destinations. They are the Panama City cruise port on the Pacific coast, Colon cruise port on the Caribbean coast and the Bocas del Toro beach destination on the Caribbean coast.
Colon and Panama City share similar weather because they are only 46 miles apart. Despite being on opposite coasts, they also have similar hurricane seasons that bring plenty of rain. Panama City has the Pacific hurricane season and Colon has the Caribbean hurricane season. Both seasons begin and end at nearly the same times.
Panama Temperatures in August
Colon and Panama City have an average daytime temperature of 93 degrees Fahrenheit or nearly 34 Celsius, according to historical records from Panama’s national meteorological service. The average nighttime temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 Celsius.
Their daytime temperatures are hotter than the average Central American cruise ports, such as Belize City and Roatan.

Panama has a wide range between the average daytime and nighttime temperatures. Nighttime temperatures will chill seawater quite a bit for anyone who visits Panama beaches, especially in the early mornings. Seawater should feel comfortable to balmy by the mid afternoon.
Panama Rainy Season in August
Panama has a rainy season that begins in May and continues through August and into November. Colon and Panama City average nine inches of rain during the month, according to the country’s meteorological service. Bocas del Toro averages nearly 18 inches, which is one of the highest levels in the Caribbean.
In contrast, Colon and Panama City reach a low point with rain of one inch or less from January through March and a high point of 13 inches in October. Bocas del Toro has a low for the year of three inches in March and a high of 22 inches in December.
