Car Rentals in Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos Tourist Office

The Turks and Caicos Islands consist of more than 40 islands and cays. This British Territory offers many forms of transportation to its visitors, from ferries to car rentals and taxi services.

Of the 40 islands and cays, only eight are inhabited. About 30,000 people live in the Turks and Caicos Islands, but more than 200,000 people visit the island each year, making transportation for visitors a priority.

Traveling in between islands is possible by plane or boat.  Planes can be chartered and taken to almost any of the islands.

The largest airport in the territory is the Providenciales International Airport.

Cruise ship passengers generally arrive at the Grand Turk Cruise Center.

The Dale Marie ferry runs from the Middle Caicos Dock to Bottle Creek and North Caicos. The Salt Bay Bucaneer runs between Salt Cay and Grand Turk.

Taxis are another method of transportation on the larger islands. Taxis are fairly reliable and efficient.

Taxis offer airport transfers, tours of the islands, and dinner transfers. Rates should be agreed upon before getting in the car to avoid any unpleasant conversations or miscommunications.

Bikes are a popular way of traveling in the Turks and Caicos Islands, especially on some of the smaller islands.

Car rentals are an excellent option for independent travelers who wish to explore the islands on their own time.

Driving is on the left hand side of the road in this territory, but most of the cars are imported from the United States with the driver’s side on the left. Most of the roads are unpaved, and travelers should expect rough conditions on many of the roads.

When renting a car, it is important to check the terms and conditions for the agencies. Many agencies require drivers to be 25 years of age.

At most rental agencies, drivers must present a valid license from their home country in order to drive in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Here are some of the most well known car rental agencies in the Turks and Caicos Islands:
