Antigua Weather in December: Rain, Temperatures

Antigua weather in December has a combination of slightly cooler weather and slightly less rain thanks to the end of the Caribbean hurricane season, which officially wraps up on Nov. 30.

Antigua is a popular stop on eastern Caribbean cruises, which appear less often in the region during September, October and November because of the hurricane season.

It makes its presence felt in Antigua during those months by dropping the highest amount of rain during the year. But December weather in Antigua does much better than the previous three months.

The following statistics about Antigua weather in December are based on a 30-year history from the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorology Services.

Monthly Rainfall

Total rainfall for the month averages 3.4 inches, which is heavier than January through June (except for a brief spike in May), according to the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorology Services.

The total is better than the more than five inches each month in September through November.

The average number of days that it rains is 13, which is the same as August, October and November.

By comparison, it rains only eight days in February, March and June.

Antigua Temperatures in December

The average high temperature in Antigua during December is 84 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius, according to the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorology Services. It’s about four degrees below the hottest month of the year, which is in August.

The average low temperature is 73 degrees Fahrenheit or about 23 Celsius, again about four degrees below the hottest month.

Seawater temperatures will normally feel comfortable enough for swimming.

Whether to Go

December is the first month since late summer when visits to the Caribbean start to pick up again.

The threat of hurricanes is nearly non-existent. Tropical storms take place less often. Total rainfall is much lower than the three previous months.

People start to visit again in December to enjoy warm weather in winter.

Antigua weather in December will deliver on the warmth and the threat of rain will be lower.
