Thousands of tourists visit the graceful cruise port of Ensenada each year. While some consider it a destination worth daring sacrifices, it's sometimes considered a rather gritty city.

In any case, visitors who are looking to travel to this Mexican showcase may want to know the best time to do so.

In general, Ensenada's climate is like the Mediterranean. This means summers with little rainfall and high humidity and winters with moderate rain and the occasional frost.

Ensenada is one of the driest cruise ports on the Mexican Riviera. Because of its northern location on the Baja Peninsula, it's also one of the coolest.

Summer

Summer temperatures are mild with an average high of around 82 degrees Fahrenheit or 28 Celsius. The average lows, mostly at night, are about 63 Fahrenheit or 17 Celsius.

Summer is the best time to visit Ensenada because of the mildly warm temperatures and low chance of rain.

Ensenada is mostly dry all year and has the least amount of rain in the summer. Total rainfall is less than one inch a month, according to Mexico's National Water Commission.

Winter, Spring and Fall

Spring and fall temperatures are somewhat cooler than summer.

The average high temperature hovers around 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 Celsius during the day and a chilly 50 Fahrenheit or 10 Celsius at night.

Rainfall increases slightly to about one to two inches a month.

Because of the cooler temperatures, cruise ships visit Ensenada less often and instead go farther south.

Winter daytime temperatures are only slightly cooler than spring and fall.

Temperatures are about 70 Fahrenheit or 21 Celsius during the day. Nighttime temperatures drop into the mid 40s Fahrenheit or single digits Celsius at night.

When To Go

For cruise travelers, the choice is obvious. The best time to visit Ensenada is during the summer when temperatures are warm but not uncomfortable and the chance of rain is low.

Ensenada is not akin to the warm Caribbean like vacation that many crave. However, unlike many places in the north, it gets close during the summer.

Although the Baja peninsula is a year-round destination, summer is the most active season and has higher prices and higher rates of accommodation.
