As far as having the best possible vacation in Cuba is concerned, choosing the right resort is one of the most important, if not most critical decisions.

From location to the rooms, staff, ambience, and available activities, there is often so much to consider. The fact that there are more than 200 hotels and resorts throughout Cuba doesn't simplify the matter either. For the average traveller, even this simple decision can become a nightmare when planning a trip to an exotic destination like Cuba.

For convenience, we will discuss some of the best resorts in Cuba to lessen the burden of choice and to present an idea as to the kind of modern luxury that is available in the largest Caribbean island.

Paradisus Princesa del Mar Resort and Spa, Varadero

Doesn't the name say it all? If not, then wondrous, huge and magnificent are words that describe this resort. Paradisus Princesa del Mar is a sprawling 630 room adults-only result on Varadero beach. The resort is classified as ultra-all-inclusive, which essentially means even more inclusive than “inclusive", in other words, clients get more bang for their buck -- even more than they would get at an all-inclusive resort.

As testament to the grandness of this resort, their never-ending pool has three large zones and an ample amount of loungers that encourage contemplation and napping. Moreover, there are eight restaurants and five bars on the compound. For those looking for the ultimate experience, there are swim-up rooms available where visitors can lounge on a Balinese bed on the beautiful terrace with a small pool just nearby.

Melia Las Americas, Varadero

The Melia Las Americas is an older 340-room, adults only Varadero property. This, however, means that it was built in a time when resorts were constructed very close to the beach. For those who don't like to walk too far from their room, this is just perfect.

Melia is also a great place for golfers. In fact, the resort is home to the Varadero Golf Club, the only 18-hole course in the country. Melia's guests share five pools and enjoy a lobby complete with upscale shops and a bar with live Cuban music. In short, a perfect mix of luxury and comfort can be found at this resort.

Hotel Playa Pesquero, Holguin

Located in the Play Pesquero resort hamlet, Hotel Playa Pesquero sits on a huge property featuring a staggering 900 rooms. Furthermore, the resort boasts as many as six restaurants and a meandering pool that seems to never end. Hotel Playa Pesquero treats its guests to wonderful spa treatments, fun activities and notable a buffet that includes a made-to-order salad bar for the health conscious.

Paradisus Varadero Resort and Spa, Varadero

Paradisus Varadero Resort is about two things -- elegance and comfort. It doesn't matter where they are from or what they've seen, most tourists are taken aback by the stunning décor at this 510-room resort, one of the finest in Varadero. In typical Paradisus fashion, everything is just a little more refined here.

Paradisus Varadero features two buffets and three a la carte restaurants. In fact, there is one restaurant that caters Japanese. For those looking for the best experience, the Royal Service offers a Balinese bed on a terrace. Of course, the spa is wonderful too.

Sol Rio Luna de Mares, Holguin

The beautiful, four-star Sol Rio Luna de Mares is nestled in the cosy Playa Esmeralda, one of the most enticing beach strips in Cuba. Sol Rio shares the beach with one other resort, but the property is surrounded by the lush gardens of Parque Marítimo Bahía de Navajo. There are two buffets and three ‘a la carte' restaurants along with a tea and coffee bar here as well.

Indulging in a luxurious Cuban vacation is a dream for many. Once this first step of finding the right resort is done correctly, travellers can be assured of, if nothing else, a wonderful stay at the resort of their choice. They will get to bask on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, splash around in crystal clear waters, and discover the stunning natural beauty of this tropical oasis.
