4 Popular Punta Cana Restaurants

Food is so central to a culture’s identity and personality, it is nearly impossible to know a culture without tasting their food.

Punta Cana, a popular area for tourists located in the eastern end of Dominican Republic, is a hot spot for authentic Dominican cuisine.

Here are some of the most delicious eats in the area of Punta Cana.

1) La Yola. This restaurant experience refines the idea of “fine dining”. Located in the Punta Cana Marina, the floors of this restaurant extend out over the Caribbean sea. Diners here can enjoy Mediterranean and traditional Dominican cuisine- including a delicious variety of seafood.  The food is spicy and flavorful, and the attentive service is hard to beat. This is a must-see restaurant for anyone looking for a delicious Dominican treat in a secluded, romantic atmosphere. The dress code is business-casual. Reservations are recommended for this restaurant.

2) Passion by Martin Berasategui is a dining experience bursting with Caribbean flavor. This upscale restaurant, located in the heart of Punta Cana, offers Spanish tapas, fresh seafood, and gourmet dinners cooked by the resident seven star chef. The restaurant also boasts an extensive wine menu—a wine for every dish, allegedly. This adults-only restaurant comes with indoor and outdoor dining options and serves dinner nightly. A reservation is recommended.

3) Seafood lovers will enjoy a night at Capitán Cook’s. This restaurant sits right on the beach, offering a view as delightful as the cuisine. The restaurant offers a group special of around $60 per person for drinks, a seafood grill, and transportation by boat to and from the restaurant. Boats offer to pick tourists up right from their hotel. The restaurant is open from noon to midnight. Reservations are required.

4) The Acqua Beach Club is a good option for diners wanting to eat well without spending a fortune. This casual restaurant serves both international and Dominican recipes, as well as a wide selection of fresh seafood. Most full meals are under $20, and the Dominican Lunchtime Special is under $10. This beach club is open for most of the day, with a lively bar scene at night.

There are many other delicious dining options in Punta Cana. Many of the most delicious local foods are found in stands on the street corners, or at the local food market.

Popular among them are Jalao, a sweet treat made with coconut and molasses, or Bandera, a dish made with meat, bananas, rice, and beans. They are both excellent local meals that help make up the Dominican Republic’s vibrant cultural identity.
