Playa del Carmen Car Rental Agencies

Playa Del Carmen is a small town where you can choose to walk, taxi or drive.

With many tourists, it is nice to have a car to see the city attractions at your own pace. There are several car rental agencies in town and others at the airport.

Public transportation is also available and is called Colectivo. It is a shared van, usually white, and it drops off and picks up passengers along Highway 307. These vans run until 10pm, except for Sunday at 7pm.

There is also a main bus station with fares beginning at 38 pesos ($3.80).

When renting a car, stay away from “airport coyotes” that try and trick you into renting by offering lower rates.

It may also be problematic if you choose to rent from foreign companies. Make sure to find out about legal requirements of Mexican auto insurance.

When driving in Mexico, you must take caution. With so many vacationers on the road, some forget to follow the rules, which leads to traffic accidents. Streets are getting better but there are still many potholes and bumps along the way.

Be aware of unexpected lane changes and cars parked on the side of the road.

Here are some of the car rental agencies in Playa Del Carmen:

Ave. 20 between Calle 4 and 6.

Hwy 307 Southbound, and Calle 34.

8th St. between 10thand 15th Ave.

5th Av. between Calle 10 and 12.

Hwy 307 and 12 St. in front of Telebodega

3rd St. South between 30th and 35th Ave.
Av. Constituyentes and Av. 15

Calle 8 between Av. 10 and Av. 15
