Renting a car is the best way to travel in Los Cabos and Cabo San Lucas.
Los Cabos is located in Mexico's southern Baja peninsula. The Los Cabos airport is located about 22 miles from San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, the two main tourist areas.
The two cities are about 17 miles apart, so transportation is a must.
There is one main highway between the cities, which is called the Carretera Transpeninsular #1. Public transportation is available by bus.
There are three bus lines and fares are approx. $1.50 each way.
Visitors can find car agencies at the airport, hotels and downtown areas. Visitors must be at least 25 years old to rent a vehicle.
It is recommended that tourists unfamiliar with the area stay in the slow lane while driving. Local drivers can be aggressive, especially toward rental cars. Make sure to learn the laws of the road.
The best deals can be found online if you can reserve ahead of time. This will ensure the best deal, and renters will have their choice of the car models they prefer.
