Glistening in the Pacific sun is Ensenada, Mexico’s original seaside getaway on the Baja peninsula. Just sixty-five miles south of the U.S. border, it was once a favorite hideaway for high-rolling Hollywood stars.

Today, the getaway remains one of Mexico’s most popular ports of call with major cruise liners docking all year round. We focus below on some of the most popular cruises to Ensenada. Rest assured, the headache of choosing from a stockpile will be a lot less to think about.

Carnival Cruise Lines MS Holiday Cruise

For cruisers looking to travel to Ensenada from Long Beach, Carnival Cruise is their only option.  This cruise has been operational since the late 1990s. Most guests opt to take a three-day cruise out of Los Angeles.

Typically, the cruise’s crowd is lively with the majority in the 20-40 age group. As such, this is a much younger crowd than the normal cruise attracts.

Due to the younger group, there is basically a party atmosphere throughout the entire cruise. During the day, the “party” is centered around the pool and the bar beside it.  At night, the action shifts to the lounges and bars inside.  There is also a Karaoke party and talent show.

It’s important to note that though the cruise is to Ensenada, they do not serve Mexican food on board.

Royal Caribbean - Legend of the Seas

Grand and luxurious, the Legend of the Seas combines modern conveniences with the sophistication of an antique setting. Amenities include a two-story dining room, soaring glass lobby and miniature golf course.

Beyond the aesthetics, amenities include an endless supply of entertainment and relaxation options for more than 2,000 guests. The cruise is mostly for the sophisticated traveller who likes large ships or want a wide array of options with a simple touch of class.

Although it will be difficult to leave the comfort of the liner, the ship docks at various location, including Ensenada and Hawaii.

4 Night Catalina & Ensenada

This is essentially a Los Angeles round-trip with Ensenada in the mix. It is especially in high demand and requires early reservations. Generally, deals sell out extremely fast, but prices on all of their cruise specials can only be guaranteed once deposit has been made.

One of the great things about this trip is the opportunities for peaceful relaxation. There is neither a major party vibe nor too much energy-draining excitement, just serene cruising on the blue seas. Other activities will generally mean swimming on the pools on deck, relaxing at the spa and dining.

Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival Imagination

This cruise is organized under Carnival Cruise and journeys to Catalina Island and Ensenada. The cruise sails frequently and lasts for four days. This is an especially great cruise for cruise novices as it’s not too long or short.

Despite being quite aged, the Carnival Imagination is still complete with a flashy decor and fiber-optic lights – it’s all about partying. There are three waterslides at the WaterWorks Aqua Park, a resort-style pool area, nine-hole mini-golf course, video arcade, etc.

For those who prefer a more peaceful getaway, there is the Serenity retreat, a kids-free, aft-facing area with two hot tubs and lounges.

This is a four-day cruise to Santa Barbara and Ensenada. There are also stops along other mini-scenic ports with wineries, beaches and historic points of interest. A variety of entertainment options are on board including outdoor movies.

Golden Princess is an easily recognizable liner of glamorous rather than ritzy décor which houses the Skywalkers Night Club and the huge quantity of balcony staterooms. For the children, there are wonderful play areas so expect a lot of families during the school vacation weeks. The liner also offers a variety of places to eat, from pastries to steaks from the Crown Grill.

Whether cruise travelers choose a quick weekend getaway or a longer trip down the coast, Baja California cruises are a great introduction to Mexico. Travelers will find plenty of opportunities for relaxing and cutting loose.

Despite the fact that Ensenada is just over an hour’s drive from the United States’ border, many guests will prefer to enjoy the offers of sailing with a world class cruise liner on the high seas—still the most elegant, romantic way to travel.
