Jamaica is a hotspot for luxury excursions from exotic locations such as Ocho Rios to the lesser known Falmouth.
For a country like Jamaica that features so many destinations, it’s best to book one’s own excursion services. This will not only save money but it will provide the option of unique and diverse excursions, small groups, individualized itineraries and the freedom to go off on one’s own if it’s necessary.
Excursions through Cruise Liners
As far as Jamaica is concerned, Cruise Ship Companies such as Carnival, Disney, Celebrity, Norwegian, Princess, Holland American and Royal Caribbean, often only carry a few excursion options and for the most part they utilize tour companies that can handle bulk groups. For the smart traveller, the best option may be to contact a local travel agency and organise a private tour.
Ocho Rios
Ocho Rios is a tourist-oriented centre along the north-central coast of the island. Tourist attractions are so pervasive here that it’s extremely difficult to choose just a few to visit. The highlights of Ocho Rios include:
Dunn’s River Falls
So beautiful is Dunn’s River Falls that it finds itself on the Jamaican Hundred Dollar Bill. In fact, there is no need to climb Dunn’s River Falls to enjoy it. The sight of the breathtaking cascading falls alone is worth the journey. It is an incredibly beautiful natural attraction. A trip to the falls is ideal for those seeking wet and wild adventure mixed with spectacular scenery.
Green Grotto Caves
For the nature bums, Green Grotto is a wonderful location to experience Jamaican flora and fauna. The area features a large underfund cavern complete with an underground river as well as a short hike through the woods.
Dolphin Cove
Dolphin Cove is, as its name suggests, a large cove that sits just along the shore. Here, tourists get to interact with the dolphins on various levels depending on the package chosen. The area also features other wonderful natural attractions
The best thing about Ocho Rios is possibly the closeness of each destination. In fact, Dolphin Cove is just a few minutes away from Dunn’s River Falls. Other attractions in Ocho Rios include Mystic Mountain, trail and beach horseback riding, Ocho Rios Zipline, and a host of other activities.
Falmouth
The town of Falmouth hasn’t always been a popular tourist attraction in Jamaica. Recently, however, due to hefty government spending that resulted in a complete overhaul of the area, Falmouth is now a contender as one of the most attractive destinations in the country.
Instead of the clichéd beautiful beaches and waterfalls, Falmouth offers a different facet of Jamaica-its history. The town is indeed about the cultural heritage of the nation and by extension the Caribbean. Here, visitors will be treated a wide variety of old fortresses, colonial buildings, restored churches, old courts and a wide variety of other mysterious historical attractions.
Montego Bay
Montego Bay is a city located on the western end of the island and is one of the most luxurious destinations in Jamaica. In fact, it may very well be the tourist capital of the island. Let’s take a look at some highlights:
Rose Hall Great House: The renowned Rose Hall Great house was the plantation home of the slave master Annie Palmer, the White Witch of Rose Hall. Here, tourists are greeted with eerie stories about her life and the happenings in the great house.
Rockland Bird Sanctuary: A simply wonderful bird sanctuary for animal lovers.
The Hip Strip: Montego Bay’s hip strip is about shopping, endless shopping in one of Jamaica’s most glamorous cities.
Coral Cliff Gaming Lounge: This casino will rival any top gaming lounge in the Caribbean, giving that ‘Vegas’ feel.
Margaritaville: the famous Margaritaville is about enjoying wonderful, exotic Jamaican food and beverages in a wonderful ambience.
Negril
Negril is Jamaica’s famous strip of white sand beaches. However, it’s even more than that—Negril is a true tourist haven where visitors will be treated to a complete vacation that will redefine the meaning of “awesome”.
Negril’s major hotspots includes its beautiful Seven Mile beach, “Time Square”, the Sunshine Village, the Negril Craft market for those special items to take home, the Negril Lighthouse, and Rick’s Café where visitors can watch the spectacular sunset as they prepare to wrap up their itineraries and go home, still yearning for the day they will be able to return to Jamaica.
