Amber Cove Weather in October

October weather in Amber Cove is the beginning of the rainy season for this growing cruise destination.

Amber Cove sits on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic near the major resort city of Puerto Plata. It was opened in 2015 by Carnival Cruise Lines and is used by all of the company's cruise brands.

Rainfall in Amber Cove

Amber Cove and the nearby Puerto Plata are unique for having a dry season when most of the Caribbean is having a hurricane season. The Caribbean hurricane season officially begins June 1 and ends Nov. 30. The peak time of activity is September and October.

Puerto Plata and Amber Cove have their driest months from June through September with an average rainfall of about two to three inches per month, according to historical records from Dominican Republic's National Office of Meteorology.

Even October averages only four inches during the month when other Caribbean destinations average anywhere from six to 10 inches or more.

It rains on average about seven to eight days a month from June through September and just under 11 during October. At the same time, some destinations average more than 20 days with rain during the month.

So October is only moderately risky with rain for anyone who may visit there by cruise during October.

November and December are the wettest months of the year with average rainfall of more than nine inches. So late October is often more risky than early October.

It is important to keep in mind that these numbers are historical averages and vary somewhat from year to year. They are helpful in planning when to go and when not to go, but they don't guarantee exactly how much rain will fall.

Temperatures in Amber Cove

Amber Cove is historically warm in October with an average high temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 Celsius. The average high usually occurs during the day. The average low, usually at night, is 68 Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius.

The cool nighttime temperatures will make seawater chilly for swimming in the mornings. Afternoon swims will offer more comfortable water temperatures.
