Amber Cove weather in December is the start of its annual dry season. December is a good time to visit.

This Caribbean cruise port on the northern coast of Dominican Republic lies near the resort area of Puerto Plata. Carnival Cruise Lines built and manages the port.

Amber Cove has a pool, restaurants, crafts market, splash zone and green space areas. Cruise visitors choose to stay at the facility or go to nearby attractions. They include the city of Puerto Plata and the Ocean World animal encounter park.

Temperatures in December

Amber Cove’s average high temperature in December of 83 degrees Fahrenheit or 28 Celsius, according to the Dominican Republic’s National Office of Meteorology. It is warm enough for daytime activities, light clothing and time on the nearby beaches such as Coconut Cove.

The average low temperature in December is 72 degrees Fahrenheit or about 22 Celsius.

Water temperatures will average in the mid to upper 70s Fahrenheit during the day. Swimming will usually feel comfortable, although early mornings may feel chilly, especially with trade winds.

But sometimes the water temperature is uncomfortable for most if not all of the day if the wind chill and currents from the north are stronger than usual.

The average rainfall of three inches is the beginning of the dry season for the Amber Cove port. The dry season goes through April and averages about two to three inches of rain each month.

It rains an average of 11 days in Amber Cove during December. The total isn’t as good as the 10 days in January or seven days from February through April.

December is the most popular month to visit Dominican Republic, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization. But for Amber Cove, December is not the best month for weather.

Anyone planning a Caribbean cruise that includes Amber Cove should keep in mind that December weather is good. It’s not as good as April when temperatures are warmer and the average rainfall lower.
